Hair fall is a very common problem that haunts us. 90% of men have to deal with a kind of male pattern baldness at some point of their lifetimes. That’s why we are all so scared when we find a few hairs hanging around in the shower or sink… “We’re gonna get bald”, we think immediately and start crying. Because hair means everything to us — beauty, strenght, power… youthness… Most of us will really lose our hair someday. Maybe just a little bit. That’s why we’re all so scared.
In this post I’m not not going to talk much about male pattern baldness. I’m going to tell you how much shedding is concidered being normal and what causes hair loss. And to illustrate all that I’m going to tell you my story and how I dealed with that.
People have between 100,000-150,000 hair on their heads… Some of us more, some of us less. That depends on our natural hair color and type. 90% of all that hair is in growing phase, while 10% is in resting phase, which means it stopped growing and will fall out at some point of time. It’s usually up to few months. So yes, some hairs will fall out everydy for everyone — no matter how young, strong and healthy they are. And that count is about 100 hair strands per day. Some days it can be more, some days it can be less but that’s a part of the natural process — regeneration. That way we will all get completely new hair on our heads every 3-5 years.
Even though we naturally lose some hair everyday, we can lose more than we want and need to. But you doesn’t have to count all the hairs that fall from your head. That would a waste of time. Let’s see how you can notice that you hair started shedding. Here are some of the symptoms:
That’s the basic symptom that we all notice but most of the time we just make that up…
That more accurate symptom but it can mean that we are combing/brushing too hard and pull our hair that way out.
That one is pretty obvious. If you found a lot of hairs of yourself on your own pillow that only you sleep every night than you are clerly loosing too much hair than you should to.
That’s another serious symptom that shows that you loosing more hair than you should to.
If you get few or more of these symptoms then something’s wrong and you should do something about it. Before solving the problem we need to know what causes it:
That’s mostly genetic thing that most of men experience in their lives. Some of us will go completely bald, some of us just get receded hairlines.
Stress influences our lives a lot. It kills nerve cells. And it can be a cause of hair fall too.
Our daily diet and food allowance influences our body a lot. If doesn’t get all the vitmins and minerals you need, your body will show you in someway. The same goes if you eat too less or too much.
If you have bad eating, habits, drink, smoke or not sleep enought, it can echo you in your hair loss too.
It is quite a common problem for people who looses a lot of weight very fast. Your body cleans it up and you some more hairs may fall.
Yes, you heard it right. There are diseases that can force you hair to shedding. Serious hair shedding can be a symptom of disease too.
The thing is that you body sends you signs when something’s not alright. It can be breakouts, headaches, weak nails and it can be hair fall. So if you experience extreme hair shedding then go to doctor because that can be a symptom of another serious disease.
Now I’m just going to tell you my story and how I solved this problem. I have experienced that too. I’m vegan myself and a few months after transition to this lifestyle and diet, my hair started falling out more than usual. I panicked and started loosing my mind. I was so terified and scared because I just got an idea of GentleHair project and eventually my hair starts falling like crazy. I’m like “Why me? Why now? Please stop it!” It was really hard time for me. But now, when I’m looking back at the time, I know what caused the problem. And a lot of beginner vegans experience that too. When I just got int veganism I didn’t know how to change these microelements that I’m not getting from animal products anymore, I ate much less than I used to,I lost a lot of weight and I had a lot of stress and big decisions at that time too. But the thing that solved my problem was very unexpected — gym. I wasn’t going to gym for almost half a year because I had no time for that. And I actually started going to gym again, got more hungry, started eating a lot more, started researching about human body and nutrition and rebuilt my mass. And my hair fall just stopped. In few months it regrew even thicker than it used to be.
There are a lot of possible reasons why you can start loosing your hair. If you notice this problem, just do research and maybe go to doctor if it doesn’t stop in few months. When your hair is weak, try to cause less damage to your hair as possible. Don’t towel dry and comb too hard. Remember that hair is weakest when it’s wet.
